Average bathroom remodel cost searches often mix US and UK pricing. This guide uses clear tiers so you can brief trades without fantasy numbers.
If you searched “remodel” you will see US figures. In the UK trades usually quote “renovation”. Use the tiers below to brief like-for-like.
Budget refresh — surfaces, sanitary ware swap, like-for-like
Same layout. New WC, basin, taps, repaint or panels, flooring overlay, like-for-like shower swap. No soil-pipe moves, no structural work.
Mid remodel — layout tweaks, better ventilation, tiling
Small changes within the same footprint, full tiling, improved extraction, upgraded shower or bath, better lighting and storage. Some plumbing moves, no structural moves.
Premium — structural moves, heated floors, bespoke joinery
Layout change, stud-wall / doorway moves, underfloor heating, bespoke vanity and storage, stone or large-format tiling, full re-wire / re-plumb as needed.
How to brief trades with these tiers
- State tier + footprint: “Mid remodel, same footprint, full tiling.”
- List keep vs replace: keep bath, replace WC / basin / taps, new extraction.
- Ask for line items: labour, sanitaryware, tiling, electrics, ventilation, waste removal.
